Simon became a member of the Thames Valley Skiff Club in the early 1980’s and played an active part in the club.
He won numerous skiff events, including the Skiff Championships, and was a committee member, committee chairman and vice-president for many years, successfully guiding TVSC through its premises re-build. Simon died suddenly after racing in a Walton Rowing Club eight at Molesey Head of the River Race.
The Simon Mepham mixed doubles marathon is named in his honour.
