Graham James Davis (1859-1939) was one of the founders of the SRA and was its Hon. Secretary for 33 years from its foundation.
He was the son of Maurice Davis, GP of 11 Brunswick Sq St Pancras and was a law student at 21. His rowing career started in the 1880s, and he was very successful with his partner R.P.Hawes, with Mrs Davis coxing, despite the fact that the two men averaged only about 9 stone. Davis was a solicitor living at Richmond at the end of the 19th century.
He was a pioneer of style in skiff racing and was one of the founders of The Skiff Club in 1895. He was the Captain of the club from 1903 to 1913 and again from 1919 to 1920. He was also Vice President of The Skiff Club and of Teddington Reach Regatta. By 1911, he lived at Old Manor House, East Molesey and when Dittons Skiff and Punting Club was founded in 1923, he became the first President of club, holding that office from 1923 to 1926. He died in 1939 aged 80.
