Teddington Reach and Skiff Champs Regatta – notice from regatta organisers

Dear Prospective Sponsors and Subscribers

TEDDINGTON REACH REGATTA and THE SKIFF CHAMPIONSHIPS

SUNDAY 24 AUGUST 2025

Once again, this year the Regatta will be hosted by Upper Thames Rowing Club.

This fresh start for the Regatta has been a great success bringing a new informality and a more relaxed feeling to a well-supported event.

While running the event at UTRC at a more sustainable cost, everything that is required for a regatta still has to be hired and/or transported to the site, so all that overhead still exists, and in that respect, very little has changed and like most households and organisations we are experiencing rises to these costs and having to take on new ones, such as professional medical provision.

Most people will not appreciate the cost of running a regatta and the difference to one that is hosted by one of the Clubs that have most of what they need on site and one that is hosted at a neutral location, such as this regatta, Chertsey & Shepperton and Sunbury. This regatta has already had to spend more than £2500 in setting up the 2025 regatta.

While the Regatta has been in Henley for many years now, it is not really associated with Henley and therefore it is very difficult to get local outside the sport sponsors and subscribers, and doing this to help cover the cost of running a regatta is perhaps quite an old-fashioned concept and there is certainly a dwindling list of these benefactors at regattas that seek these.

But we are not asking you for vast sums of money, like a Coca Cola at the Olympics, we are looking for something far more modest and we hope that such support will come from the current and past active members of the competing Clubs.

Our aim is for a sponsor to cover the cost of the prizes for an event, so let’s say a minimum of £30; you may feel you can give more or sponsor more than one event.

As a subscriber, you can offer whatever sum you feel comfortable with.

So, do you fancy being a sponsor or a subscriber at the Teddington Reach (Skiff Championships) Regatta, the pinnacle of the skiff racing season?

You will get a mention in the programme and by the commentator and will be entered in the Sponsors and Subscribers draw too.

If you would like to do this as your business, then with artwork, we could also arrange an advert in the programme.

A list of events that can be sponsored is included at the bottom of this letter. (They are only the non-Championship events)

Our preferred method of payment is on-line directly into the Regatta’s bank account, details of which are below:

Sort code – 40-35-43

Account Number – 01077619

Account Name – Skiff Championships (Teddington Reach) Regatta

Note: if your on-line banking provider says the account number and account name do not match, please take the option to override this check because the account number is correct

When paying on-line please add the word ‘Sub’ or ‘Spon’ followed by your ‘Name’ as the ‘reference’, so that our Hon. Treasurer can track monies received and treat them appropriately.

Also, please would you let me know by email (see above, it is a new one) when you’ve made such a payment, a note of the amount and if a sponsor, the event you’d like to support so that I can liaise with the Hon. Treasurer on incoming donations, update the sponsors and subscribers page for the programme and enter you in the sponsors and subscribers prize draw.

The winner of the sponsors and subscribers prize draw will be announced at the regatta.

If you prefer, you may still pay by cheque, payable to ‘Skiff Championships Regatta’ and send it to the Hon. Treasurer, Mrs Sarah Clarke, 71 Rydens Road, Walton-on Thames, KT12 3AL, give a cheque or cash to her on the day.

As usual, we hope racing will commence around 10:00 and run through to late afternoon; prize giving will take place about 30 minutes after the conclusion of racing.

I do hope you’ll be able to come along and enjoy a day by the Thames with us; parking is now free; refreshments will be available throughout the day, and the bar will open from lunchtime onwards.

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you again this year at Upper Thames Rowing Club.

With my best wishes

David Taylor
